Bomb scare holds up Godavari Express

VISAKHAPATNAM: Panic gripped Samalkot railway station under the Secunderabad-based South Central Railway (SCR) on Saturday night as passengers of 12727 Godavari Express ran helter skelter following rumours of a bomb on board the train after a passenger reportedly pulled the chain just as the train was chugging out of the station.

more... being alerted, the Samalkot Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot, evacuated the passengers and checked the all bogies for any suspicious looking articles or bags. Confirming this, duty officer at the Samalkot GRP, G Appa Rao, said Godavari Express reached the station at around 8.20 pm (the train has a one minute halt) and was checked by the GRP team, which found no bombs or any other suspicious materials.
"After a thorough check, the train left Samalkot station at around 10 pm, nearly one hour and forty minutes late due to the bomb scare," Rao added.
