To enhance safety on the Howrah-Dhanbad route, the Indian Railways has implemented the Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC) technology. and minimizing the risk of signaling failures. In the first phase, this technology has been approved for implementation at nine stations in the Asansol Railway Division, including Kulti, Barakar, Kumardubi, Mugma, Thaparnagar, Kalubathan, Chhota Ambana, Basukinath, and Dumka. The total estimated cost of this project is ₹23.41 crore. An additional project worth ₹44.59 crore has also been approved for implementing dual-mode MSDAC in block sections between Khana-Andal and Sitarampur-Chhota Ambona, further enhancing the reliability of the automatic block signaling system. The MSDAC system improves safety by accurately detecting train positions, and its digital nature makes it reliable even during adverse weather conditions, unlike traditional signaling systems that can malfunction during heavy rain due to water logging on tracks. The implementation of MSDAC at the nine Asansol division stations is underway, with no specific timeframe yet set. Another project to implement dual-mode MSDAC in block sections between Khana-Andal and Sitarampur-Chhota Ambona is yet to commence.
